KING HAS DREAM!

Two years after the chief cupbearer was released from prison, King Pharaoh had some dreams that really troubled him.

Pharaoh dreamed: He was standing by the River Nile and saw seven fat cows come up out of the water and feed among the reeds. After this, seven skinny cows came up out of the water and stood beside the fat cows. The skinny cows ate the fat cows. Then King Pharaoh woke up. He fell asleep again and had a second dream: Seven good ears of corn grew on a single stalk. After them, seven thin ears of corn grew. The thin ears of corn swallowed up the good ears of corn. Then Pharaoh woke up; it had been a dream.

The King sent for his wise men but none of them could explain the dreams. Then, the chief cupbearer remembered Joseph could interpret dreams and told Pharaoh about him. Some men were sent to the prison to fetch Joseph.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have had a dream and nobody can tell me what it means. Can you tell me?"

"I cannot do it," Joseph replied to Pharaoh, "but God will tell you."

So Pharaoh told Joseph the dreams and Joseph gave him God's meaning. Joseph explained that the seven fat cows were seven years and the seven skinny cows were seven years. Also the seven good ears of corn were seven years and the seven thin ears of corn were seven years. There were going to be seven years of bumper harvests in Egypt, with more than enough food for everyone. These seven good years would be followed by seven years of famine, when there would be no food at all.

Joseph then advised the King to prepare for the famine by storing up grain during the seven good years, so there would be enough food for all the people during the seven poor years.
